2012 Daktronics All-Super Region IV Selections (PDF)
COMMERCE, Texas -- A&M-Commerce senior linebacker Danny Mason continues to receive some of the highest accolades available, being named a first team Daktronics All-Super Region IV selection at linebacker.
Mason, the 2012 Lone Star Conference Linebacker of the Year and first team All-LSC selection, was one of four linebackers named to the All-Region first team, joining Jordan Campbell of New Mexico Highlands, Kevin Lindholm of Chadron State and Darius Wilson of Central State. He also joins West Texas A&M defensive lineman Ethan Westbrooks as the only two representatives from the Lone Star Conference on the first team defensive unit.
Mason closed out his stellar A&M-Commerce career by leading the Lone Star Conference with 115 tackles as his 11.5 tackles per game led the LSC while ranking third nationally. Mason had four games of 13 tackles or more on the year, highlighted by a career-best 17 at Eastern New Mexico on November 3rd. He also added 11.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery while serving as the defensive team captain for A&M-Commerce.
For his career, Mason finished with 280 tackles in his four years as a Lion, which ranks third all-time since defensive statistics were kept. He became just the eighth Lion linebacker to be named a two-time first team All-LSC selection and became the second-straight A&M-Commerce linebacker to earn Daktronics All-Region honors, joining his former teammate Cory Whitfield who was a second team selection in 2011.
In all, 13 Lone Star Conference players were named to the All-Region team, highlighted by Westbrooks being named the Defensive Player of the Year. Four were named to the offensive first team with Mason and Westbrooks representing the conference on the first team defensive unit.
