FIRST SERVE
The Lions step out of Lone Star Conference play to face the Ouachita Baptist before embarking on another road trip this weekend. This time they travel to San Angelo so a rematch with the Rambelles and to Stephenville to face the TexAnns of Tarleton State for the first time this season.
SERIES SCORE
The Lions have dominated the Tigers historically. A&M-Commerce holds an 18-1 record all-time versus Ouachita Baptist, with the only loss coming back 2003. The win over Angelo State just last week was the first for Craig Case as head coach of the Lions and first since 2007. When the Lions travel to Stephenville they will looking to end a four losing streak to the TexAnns over the last two seasons.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
The Tigers are losers of five straight after winning eight of their first nine matches of the season. Abby Pickett is the leading hitter for the Tigers with 119 kills and 2.38 kills per set so far this season. Faith Avalos and Kelley Ballard are also averaging over two kills per set at 2.13 and 2.04 respectively. Tara Wait is the quarterback of the offense for the Lions with 506 assists for an average of 9.37 per set.
SCOUTING THE RAMBELLES
The Rambellese snapped a three game losing streak last time out with a straight set win over Tarleton State. Maddie Huth leads the Rambelle attack with 3.17 kills per set and 190 total. Arielle Bond, Leah McWilliams and Courtney Bartusiak are all averaging over two kills per for the Rambelles. Maggi Jo Keffury directs the offense for Angelo State. Keffury has 638 assists and is averaging 11 assists per set, which puts her second in the LSC behind Jordan Neal the Lions.
SCOUTING THE TEXANNS
The TexAnns are 2-3 in their last five matches. Tarleton faces Dallas Baptist and Texas Woman's before facing the Lions on Saturday. Stacie Murrah leads the TexAnns and is third in the LSC with her 3.20 kills per set average on the season. Kaitlyn White and Jazmine Green are averaging over two kills this season to add to the attack. Setter, Danielle Barker, is third in the LSC in assists per set while averaging 10.73.
NEAL AMONG NATIONS BEST
Senior setter, Jordan Neal, is leading the LSC in assists per set with her 11.57 average but also ranks tied for eighth in the country.
NEAL CHANCE TO BREAK ALL-TIME ASSIST RECORD
With three matches on the schedule this week Neal has a chance to become the all-time leader in assists in program. Neal is 71 assists from breaking the record held by Melissa Staiger (1997-2000). Neal will most likely break the record in the fourth set versus Angelo State or at point after that this week.Â
NEAL MOVING UP SERVICE ACE LIST
Neal is sitting at 124 aces for her career as a Lion, which puts her sixth all-time. Neal is just three aces away from moving into fourth place and 18 from cracking the top three.
DAVAULT EARNS SECOND PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR
Junior outside hitter, Amy Davault, earned her second Co-Offensive Player of the Week award this week. The Houston, Texas native totals 44 kills and 32 digs last week. Davault continues to lead the LSC in total kills (228) and kills per set (3.62).
BOND MOVING UP ALL-TIME BLOCKS LIST
Senior right side, Kayla Bond is moving up the total block list. Bond has recorded 61 total blocks this season and sits at 253 for her career, which ranks 10th all-time and 14 behind ninth place.
LIONS AMONG LSC LEADERS
Along with Neal and Davault the Lions have other players among the conference leaders. Kayla Bond is ranked third in hitting percentage (.312) and Taryn Driver (.249) is eighth in hitting percentage. Bond is third in service aces (0.33 per set), sixth in blocks (.97) and tenth in kills per set (2.86). Lions own three spots in the Top 10 in services aces.
