RICHARDSON, Texas -- A&M-Commerce junior Sara Diaz has been named the Lone Star Conference Golfer of the Week, announced today by league officials. It marks the first weekly honor of Diaz's career and the first for a female Lion golfer this season.
Diaz was named to the 2013 Texoma Chevy Dealers Lion Intercollegiate All-Tournament team after a fifth-place showing at Tanglewood Golf Club, the highest finish of her career. She posted a pair of 79s over the 36-hole event, leading A&M-Commerce with a 14-over 158 and finishing just five shots back of the individual champion.
It marked the first top-five and top-10 finish of Diaz's A&M-Commerce career as she has notched six top-20 showings, including tying her previous career-best by placing 11th at the World Golf Invitational in St. Augustine, Fla., last month to open up the spring season. Diaz currently sits second among the Lions with a 78.71 scoring average and has been a two-time National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-America Scholar.
Diaz and the rest of the Lions return to action next week, making the trip to Wichita Falls for the Midwestern State Mustang Invitational March 17 and 18.
