COMMERCE, Texas -- Construction has officially begun at Memorial Stadium as A&M-Commerce Athletics is completely replacing the artificial turf football field as well as the track surrounding the field.
The process began on Tuesday, May 21st with construction crews rolling up the turf field, followed by the support base underneath down to the dirt base. The next phase of the process will be to dig down nearly three feet into the field to provide the drainage system for the new turf.

In addition to the new playing synthetic playing turf, which will be installed by AstroTurf, the track surrounding the football field will be completely resurfaced as well. The entire process is expected to be completed by August 1st, two weeks before football begins summer practices leading into the fall season.
It is one of two resurfacing projects taking place this summer among A&M-Commerce facilites as the Lion Soccer Field is also being re-graded and receiving new sod as well.
