Canyon, Texas – The Lion volleyball team wrapped up their season tonight falling to the number one seeded West Texas A&M Lady Buffs three sets to none in the Lone Star Conference Tournament. The Lady Buffs had a hitting percentage of .309 compared to .073 for A&M-Commerce.
A&M-Commerce fell behind early in the first set 6-4 when
Taryn Driver and
Sydney Reyes had back-to-back kills to tie the set at 6. With the Lions trailing 21-15
Amy Davault sparkd a run with a kill followed by a great dig by
Chasiddy Hill and another Davault kill making the score 21-17. However, the run would not be enough as the Lady Buffs took the first set 25-19.
The Lions took an early 4-2 lead in the second set following a Davualt kill and
Courtney Tate service ace. However, the Lady Buffs would go on a run and take a 14-9 lead. A
Delanee Clark and Davault block highlighted a 3-0 run by the Lions that was capped off by a Driver kill. The Lady Buffs answered with a 5-0 run of their own en route to a set two win.
A&M-Commerce started the third set with a lot of intensity and Davault ignited the Lions with a kill to start the set. The Lions scored six of the first four points of the set and
Davault had two kills in that run. The Lady Buffs answered with a 5-0 run of their own to take a 7-5 lead. Back-to-back Davault kills pulled the Lions within 24-17, however, it wouldn't be enough as the Lions dropped the set 25-17.
The Lady Buffs were led offensively tonight by Lexi Davis who had nine kills and Lone Star Conference Offensive player of the Year Lauren Bevan who added 6 kills. Kameryn Hays did a nice job running the West Texas A&M offense picking up a team-high 24 assists. Cori Haley anchored the defense with three total blocks on the night.
In her final match as a Lion Davault notched another great performance picking up a match-high 15 kills and had a .225 hitting percentage. Tate added another superb performance with 29 assists to go along with two kills and four digs. Defensively
Ashley Mireles had a match-high 14 digs and Clark added two blocks.
The Lions finish up their season with a 7-23 record. Davault finishes up a great two-year career for the A&M-Commerce Lions. This season she finished with 455 kills and 880 kills as a Lion.
