HOW IT HAPPENEDFirst Half The Baylor Bears came out of the gates firing from the three-point line as they shot 5-7 (71.4%) in the first quarter alone initiated by Alexis Prince with two early three pointers. The Bears also controlled the paint in this quarter with six offensive rebounds and 11 second chance points. The Lions shot 4-12 (33.3%) from the field and had seven turnovers. In the second quarter, the Lions turned the ball over only twice but also only scored seven points. Despite the stats, the Lions played better in the second quarter with only two turnovers and forcing four Baylor turnovers. Baylor dominated the boards going into the locker room with a 34-13 advantage and three blocks. They also continued to hit from the three shooting 54.5 percent which was a huge contribution to the 60-17 halftime lead.
Second HalfThe A&M-Commerce Lions played considerably better in the second half. They shot better from the field as well as from the behind the arc while forcing five Baylor turnovers in the third quarter. Nonetheless, Baylor still shot lights out in The Ferrell Center. Alexis Jones led the Bears finishing with 22 points including 4-5 from the three-point line, eight assists, and four steals. Kalani Brown was right behind her with 20 points shooting 7-10 from the field and 6-10 from the stripe. The Bears went on to win the game 104-41.
INSIDE THE BOX SCOREThe Bears shot 53.9 percent from the field as well as a 57.1 three-point field goal percentage. The Lions finished at 22 percent from both the field and the three-point line.
The Lions were outscored in the paint 62-12.
The Bears out rebounded the Lions 62-33 and won the second chance point battle 28-8.
