Burton's CornerWhen asked about:
…an evaluation of today's game.…"We shot the ball well. 49% for the game is the best we have shot all year; but we were too careless with the ball today. Hopefully, we got all of our turnovers out today because we cannot do that against Texas State and expect to win. We also struggled to contain Barnes off the dribble. Tomorrow, Texas State has two guards that are just as quick that we have to contain to be successful."
…the quick turnaround game with Texas State.…"We have worked on Texas State scout this week in practice and we will watch film tomorrow and go over the scouting report in more detail. They are a similar team to us as far as what they like to do. The challenge will be who can do what at a higher level for 40 minutes."
What's NextThe Lions travel to San Marcos, Texas to take on the 3-4 Texas State Bobcats
The Bobcats are ready to hit the floor again after a 10-day rest period after their win over UTSA 72-64. Texas State has a 3-4 record this year with wins over St. Edwards, North Texas, and previously mentioned UTSA. The Bobcats have lost to some noble opponents such as Texas A&M, Iowa State, Idaho, and Duke. Texas State averages 55.4 points per game shooting 33 percent from the floor and 30 from three-point range. This season, the Bobcats have had slow beginnings to the halves being outscored by their opponents 131-87 in the first quarter, and giving up 143 points in the third quarter, which is the highest of the four. Sophomore guard Taeler Deer leads the way for the Bobcats dropping 14 points per game, 15 total assists, and 12 steals. Zenarae Antoine is the head coach for Texas State and has been so for five seasons. She enters the game against the Lions with a 63-69 record.
Texas State leads the series between the two programs in wins 4-1. When the Lions and Bobcats first met, the schools names were East Texas University and Southwest Texas University. In the original contest, the Lions took their lone victory in the head-to-head matchup 69-63 in the 1982-83 season. However, in a playoff rematch, the Bobcats took revenge winning the matchup 87-78. That rematch sparked the current three-game winning streak that the Lions will try to dismantle Sunday, December 13 in the Strahan Coliseum. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 pm.
