Lions Drop Two Games on Opening Day of Rattler Invitational

San Antonio, Texas – A&M-Commerce dropped the opening two games of the Rattler Invitational with losses to Oklahoma Christian and Texas A&M Invitational scoring only one run in the 14 innings played Friday.
 
In game one, against Oklahoma Christian the Lions stranded 12 runners after outhitting the Eagles 8-7.
 
Oklahoma Christian scored a pair of runs in third and fourth innings.  In the third inning, Kendra Pierce knocked a two-run homer, and in the fourth inning, Madison Nordyke drove in two runs with a single.
 
Taylor Mosher got the win in the circle in five and third innings of work, while Shea Coats earned the save in an inning and two-thirds on the rubber.
 
Baylea Higgs, Monica Cherry and Magen Lynch all had two hits for the Lions.  Cherry had a double in her 2-for-4 performance at the plate.
 
Aundria Romero took the loss for the Lions in five innings of work.  She gave up six hits and the four runs with three strikeouts.
 
In game two, Texas A&M International put up four runs in the bottom of the first inning and held on over the last six innings to pick up the 4-1 win.
 
The Dustdevils did their damage on five hits in the four-run first.  None of the five hits went for extra bases in the inning.
 
The Lions pushed across their lone run of the game in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Johnna Sturm that plated Cherry, who reached on a walk.
 
Sturm and Luci Ponce paced the Lions with two hits each, while Ponce had the Lions only extra base hit, a double in the first inning.
 
Mariena Gallardo earned the win in seven innings of work allowing only five hits with six strikeouts.  Cyanna Fernandez was took the loss after giving up four runs in the first inning without recording an out.  Selena Rima worked six innings in relief allowing only one hit and recording six Ks.
 
The Lions will play No. 13 Central Oklahoma and No. 4 St. Mary's Saturday at noon and 4 p.m. for their next games.
