San Antonio, Texas – Fresh off its 1-0 win over No. 4 St. Mary's, A&M-Commerce took a 3-2 into the bottom of the seventh inning, but Texas A&M-International rallied with a pair of runs on a game-tying home run and the game-winning RBI single to rally to pick up the 4-3 win over the Lions Sunday morning on the finale of the Rattler Invitational.
The Lions trailed 2-1 after the second inning with their lone run coming on an
Aundria Romero solo homer.
A&M-Commerce pulled even on an RBI single off the bat of
Cyanne Fernandez, and the Lions took the lead in the next inning when
Cherie Jackson smacked her first home run to give the Lions a 3-2 lead.
After a scoreless sixth by both teams and a scoreless top of the seventh by the Lions, the Dustdevils tied the game when Alyssa Soneff deposited a 3-2 pitch over the fence to knot the game at three. After a throwing error allowed a base and two fielder's choices, the Dustdevils were down to their last out with a runner on first. Brenda Parmin singled to move a runner into scoring position at second, and Brittany Mussett ended the game with an RBI single to center to give Texas A&M-International the 4-3 walk-off win.
Romero was saddled with the loss fiving up two hits and one run in two thirds of inning of work, while Delany Thompson picked up the win after working a complete game. Thompson gave up six hits and three runs while striking out seven Lion batters.
The Lions slip to 11-7 on the season and will return to action with their first Lone Star Conference weekend series with Cameron on Friday, February 27 with first pitch for the doubleheader set for 6 p.m. The four-game set will conclude Saturday, February 28 with first pitch of the doubleheader slated for 3 p.m.
