Top-seeded Lions advance to LSC Championship Finals with 1-0 win over No. 4 Angelo State

COMMERCE - The top-seeded Texas A&M University-Commerce soccer team advanced to the finals of the Lone Star Conference Championship with a 1-0 victory over fourth-seeded Angelo State University at Lion Soccer Field on Friday night.

The Lions move on to Sunday's 1 p.m. championship match with automatic qualification for the NCAA Division II Tournament on the line. The Lions' opponent will be the third-seeded Mustangs of Midwestern State, who defeated West Texas A&M 1-0 in the first semifinal match of the night.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Defender Delaney Bunselmeyer headed in the game's only goal in the 37th minute for her third goal of the year. All three of her goals have been game-winners.
- The Lions outshot the Rambelles 14-10, with Caitlin Duty picking up her 10th shutout of the season with three saves.
- A&M-Commerce moves its record to 14-5 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In a physical, back-and-forth match, the Lions had pressure on the Rambelles from the kickoff. A&M-Commerce had two corner kicks in the opening eight minutes, with a Bunselmeyer header going high. Anitra Wright rocketed a long range shot off of the crossbar in the 16th minute.

After half an hour had passed, LSC Player of the Year Vicky Back narrowly missed to either side of the frame before the Lions put the ball in the net. LSC Forward of the Year whipped in a corner kick from the left side that bounced to Bunselmeyer's head, where the sophomore defender capitalized on the chance.

In the second half, the Lions controlled the pace of play as the Rambelles threw numbers forward in an effort to equalize late. Grasser had four shots in the half, with one saved and other narrowly missing. Duty made all three of her saves in the second half and a last minute shot by ASU's Elizabeth Rodriguez went high, sealing the Lions' path to the finals.
