1st HalfBoth teams open the quarter slow, shooting a combined 2-of-16 from the floor. However, the Lions shot a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line over the first six minutes of the half giving the Lions a 8-2 lead. Texas A&M-Kingsville had a late 6-2 run to tie the game at ten. However, a buzzer beater by
Shomari Harris gave the Lions a 12-10 advantage to end the first quarter.
The Shooting woes continued for both squads in the second quarter. Kaylin Roher connected from beyond the arc to put the Javelinas ahead 13-12, sparking a 7-0 run albeit Roher three-ball was the only field goal made.
Natalie Hessong finally put the Lions on the board with 3:33 remaining in the second quarter after draining an uncontested trey, cutting the lead down 17-15. With the score 20-17 with seconds remaining,
Gabby Scott failed on a three-point attempt to tie but runs down her own rebound and flips up a layup as time expires to bring the Javelinas lead down to one at 20-19.
Both teams ended the first half shooting 20 percent from the floor. The Javelinas shot 25 percent (2-of-8) from the three-point line, while the Lions went 1-of-10 from the same distance.

Alas, the Javelinas did not crack, and went on their own 8-0 run in the third quarter while holding the Lions scoreless on seven shot attempts to snatch back a 30-27 lead. Both teams went back-and-forth in scoring until
Gabby Scott went on a run by herself scoring five straight points, highlighted by knocking down the second three-pointer of the game for the Lions to tie the game at 36. The two teams looked as if they were going to enter the fourth quarter tied until Kyra Bauer got free for a layup with 26 seconds left to give the Javelinas a 38-36 lead. Burton's Corner"This was a really tough win. The ball would not go in for us in the first half and we just continued to settle for jump shots instead of going inside. We bounced back after halftime once we went back to our strengths and we finished the fourth quarter strong. In the second half, our guards rebounded tremendously and we got stops. Our defense has been strong all season and this win was important for momentum. Next game will be a very important game for our confidence and we must continue to take care of home with Angelo State coming to The Field House."
