Commerce, TX- After splitting Friday's doubleheader the Lions came back strong on Saturday sweeping the Rambelles on senior day at the John Cain Family Field.
A&M-Commerce finished LSC play with a winning record of 18-15 in the program's second year.
In-between game one and two, A&M-Commerce recognized seniors
Haley Colwell,
Kylene Hatton,
Danielle Guerra, Magan Lynch and
Luci Ponce. Guerra, Lynch and Ponce were in the program's inaugural recruiting class with Ponce representing the first Lion softball signee.
Game 1: A&M-Commerce 4, Angelo State 1
Turning Point
The Lions took the lead in the bottom of the second when
Johnna Sturm homered driving in the first run. Colwell and Guerra also scored in the inning to give the Lions a 3-0 lead.
Inside the Box Score
Selena Rima threw a complete in the cirlce. Rima faced 29 batters only allowed three hits and had eight strikeouts.
Tyler Oppenheim was perfect at the plate going 2-for-2 with a run scored and one RBI.
Johnna Sturm went 1-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI. Sturm's homer was her sixth of the season.
Danielle Guerra went 1-for-2 and scored one run.
Summary
2nd Inning
Johnna Sturm had a hot bat hitting a homerun on the first pitch. Colwell singled and scored on Oppenheim's single up the middle. Guerra also singled and scored when
Magen Lynch walked with bases loaded to give the Lions a 3-0 lead.
4th Inning
Oppenheim, who reached on an infield single, scored when Lynch singled, but the throw got away allowing Oppenheim to score giving the Lions a 4-1 lead.
6th Inning
Angelo State scored their only run of the game when Alexis Evans homered to give the game the final score of 4-1.
Game 2: A&M-Commerce 6, Angelo State 3
Turning Point
The Lions came out hot in the first inning scoring five runs and taking a four run lead from the Rambelles after the first.
Inside the Box Score
Hatton had a fantastic last game at John Cain Family field; she homered and went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and had two RBI.
Higgs went 3-for-4 and scored one run.
Colwell went 1-for-2, drove in one run and scored once.
Cherry homered; she went 1-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored.
Anna Hitt got the win after pitching four innings. Hitt faced 21 batters and only allowed three hits.
Katie Dean was also in the circle for the Lions, she pitched two innings and had one strikeout.
Rima closed out the game pitching one inning with two strikeouts.
Summary
1st Inning
Angelo State had the first run of the game scoring once with a home run.
A&M-Commerce answered with plating five runs starting highlighted by Hatton's two-run homer. Cherry brought in the next three runs with another Lion homer.
5th Inning
The Rambelles scored on a steal to home adding one run on the board for a score cutting the Lion lead down to 5-2.
The Lions answered with one run when Colwell hit a SAC fly and brought in Hatton.
7th Inning
Angelo State managed to plate one more run before the Lions closed the inning securing the 6-3 win.
What's Next
The Lions are set to travel to Oklahoma Christian University on Tuesday, April 19 at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to close out the regular season.
