Wichita Falls, TX – Midwestern State hung 15 runs in the first doubleheader of the Lone Star Conference series against the Lions with the Mustangs taking game one 11-6 and finishing the sweep with a 5-3 win Friday night.
Game 1: A&M-Commerce 6, Midwestern State 11
Turning Point
Midwestern scored five runs in the bottom of the first getting on a that got the Mustang offense rolling and set the tone for the game.
Inside the Box Score
Kylene Hatton hit a two-run homer and went 1-for-3 with two runs score and an RBI.
Magen Lynch went 1-for-3 hitting a double and drove in two runs.
Summary
1st Inning
After a series of walks and a Mustang error the Lions scored one run in the top of the first.
The Mustangs answered with five runs to take a 5-1 lead.
2nd Inning
The Mustangs scored two more runs while at the plate taking a 7-1 lead over the Lions.
6th Inning
The Lions had a big inning scoring three runs after
Haley Colwell, Hatton and
Tyler Oppenheim doubled cutting the deficit in half with a score of 8-4.
The Mustangs came back and scored three to take an 11-4 lead with one inning left.
7th Inning
The Lions fought hard scoring two more runs when Hatton homered, but could not complete the comeback falling 11-6.
Game 2: A&M-Commerce 7, Midwestern State 6
Turning Point
With the game tied at two in the bottom of the sixth inning, Midwestern used a single, a Lion error and a sacrifice fly to take a 4-2 lead on the Lions. The deficit proved too big for A&M-Commerce to over come in the final frame.
Inside the Box Score
Hatton homered for the second time of the night brining in two runs for the Lions and knotting up the score 2-2. She went 2-for-3 at the plate and score two runs and drove in two RBI.
Higgs went 1-for-3 and had one run scored.
Selena Rima pitched the entire game, she faced 26 batters and only allowed three hits and got five strikeouts in the loss.
Summary
1st Inning
The Mustangs took the lead early scoring two runs.
4th Inning
Hatton homered and tied up the score two driving in Higgs who started the inning with a single.
6th Inning
The Mustangs took control of the game with their two-run sixth.
7th Inning
Colwell reached on a fielder's choice and brought in Hatton, who lead off the inning a singled up the middle. The Lions ended the game with the winning run on first.
What's Next
The Lions continue the series Saturday, April 9 at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. The games have been moved up an hour due to a high chance of rain.
