HOW IT HAPPENED
The tightest set of the match was the opener, as the Lions fought back from a late deficit. The Rambelles held a late 23-18 lead when a 3-0 run by the Lions cut the lead to two points. Service aces by Smith and Mireles kept the set alive before ASU put it away. A&M-Commerce hit only .023 in the set, but threw up five blocks, including three by
Bina Njikam.
Driver hit .500 in the second set with five errorless kills. The teams were locked in a see-saw battle and ASU was only up by a 16-15 margin before the Rambelles scored seven of the next nine points to pull away for the 2-0 set lead.
Angelo State heated up on offense in the third set, hitting .379 to the Lions' .086 rate in the frame.
Shantel Norton and Driver had three kills apiece in the set, but three ASU service aces and the lack of Lion blocks helped the hosts earn the sweep.
