COMMERCE – The Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball team picked up its fourth straight win on its home floor, picking up a 3-1 win over Cameron University on Friday evening.
The Lions won by set scores 25-13, 23-25, 25-15, 25-10 and moved to 9-6 overall and 3-2 in the Lone Star Conference. Cameron falls to 2-12 overall and 0-6 in league play. A&M-Commerce wraps up a five-match homestand at 2 p.m. Saturday against Midwestern State.

- The Lions hit .255 on the night with 63 kills, while the Aggies hit .059 with 31 kills.

Daisge Smith was the team kills leader, earning a double-double with 15 kills and 15 digs with a .324 hitting percentage.

Taryn Driver had 12 kills on a .296 hitting rate and
Neka Nelson threw down 10 kills with a .375 hitting percentage.

Ashley Mireles had 28 digs and was one of five Lions with double digit digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead and never looked back in the opening set. Smith had four errorless kills on six swings as A&M-Commerce hit .250 as a team in the set. The Lions had four service aces in the set.
Cameron battled back in the second set to tie the match up. The Lions hit .143 in the set and a pair of Aggie blocks made up the difference in the set score. The set was tied at 22-all, but CU earned three out of the last four points to take the set.
The Lions turned on the heat in the third set to pull back ahead. Smith, Njikam and
Layne Little each had three kills in the set as A&M-Commerce hit .324 as a team with four blocks. The Lions also had three service aces with Mireles earning a pair. The Lions led by a 16-14 margin before going on a big run to end the set, scoring nine of the final 10 points with a Mireles ace putting the cap on the set.
The third set momentum carried over into the fourth set as the Lions ran away to close out the match. A&M-Commerce held Cameron to a minus-.083 hitting percentage and dug out 21 balls. Offensively, the hosts hit .342 with Nelson and Drive each earning five kills. The Lions quickly ran to a 12-3 lead to take a commanding advantage. A Smith kill ended the night with the big set win.
