EDMOND, Okla. – Texas A&M University-Commerce senior
Vicky Back headed in her second goal of the season in the 86th minute, but a two-goal deficit was too much for the Lions to overcome in a 2-1 loss to Central Oklahoma at Tom Thompson Field on Friday evening.
With the loss, the Lions are now 1-2-0 on the year. A&M-Commerce hosts St. Edward's for the first home match of the year at 1 p.m. Sunday.
"
We worked very hard and we were unfortunate not to get a result," said A&M-Commerce head coach Neil Piper. "Central Oklahoma is a good team and it was a good road test for us. Even though we lost, there were a lot of positives to come out of the game."
The Lions controlled the match early, taking the first five shots before the Bronchos scored on their second shot of the game when Morgan Cherry put in a rebound in the 23rd minute.
A&M-Commerce forced UCO goalkeeper Ally Salls to make three saves in the first half, but was unable to find the back of the net.
The Lions had their share of shots in the second half before a 25-yard shot by UCO's Mikayla Lowery found the net in the 82nd minute to complicate the comeback effort.
Michelle Kotlik picked up her third assist of her freshman year for the Lions when
Vicky Back headed in her corner kick in the 86th minute. The Lions aggressively pursued the equalizer, but the mission fell short and the Bronchos picked up the win.
