HEAD COACH NEIL PIPER AFTER THE MATCH
-
Thoughts on the game: "I thought in the first half, we were the better team. They had some chances but I felt like we could have been three or four goals up, but we weren't. To Tyler's credit, they hung in there and created some good chances themselves. In the second half, we got that early goal and then kind of just hung on. I think the last 20 minutes, we got tired and they took it to us. We were able to hold on and get the win."
-
On the future rivalry with UT Tyler: "It's the first time we've played them in a non-exhibition game. They are just down the road from us, not too far. And they have always had a good team. They gave us a great game today. I'm glad we got the win."
-
On getting rest before a tough week next week: "We will give our players the weekend off and then get ready for TWU and Dallas Baptist next week. Those are two tough matches. I'm glad we have them at home."

HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams fought for possession early in the match before the Lions were able to capitalize in the 10th minute. On a ball that was kicked out, Crews was able to find Campuzano near the goal box. She juked a pair of Patriot defenders and scored with her left foot, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead in the match.
The Patriots responded not two minutes later, putting in a goal to tie the match at 1-all.
The Lions kept attacking, as Crews and Sorrell each had a shot on goal, and Sink had two shots saved. Peters made a save in the 32nd minute as the Patriots looked to take the lead. However, neither team could break the tie, as the game went into halftime tied at one.
Peters made three early saves in the second half as the Patriots attacked early. However, it was the Lions who broke the tie. Campuzano kicked the ball to Sorrell, who maneuvered before finding Sink open. She used her right foot to give the Lions a 2-1 lead.
Sorbers had a shot saved off of a corner kick header as the Lions kept attacking. The Lions hunkered down on defense late to keep the Patriots from having an opportunity, and left with the win.
