AUSTIN – The Texas A&M University-Commerce women's basketball team went on the road to start the regular season and Lone Star Conference play at St. Edward's University on Friday and picked up an 85-74 victory to start the season.
The game was the first of a back-to-back series against the Hilltoppers, with Saturday's game set to tipoff at 2 p.m.
HEAD COACH JASON BURTON AFTER THE GAME
His immediate thoughts after today's game: "We have some things to work on, but the good thing is that we came out, we executed the game plan, our girls played really hard and I am proud of the effort at the end of the day."
On
DesiRay Kernal and
Chania Wright: "I told the team that DesiRay almost had a triple-double, 22-points, 11 rebounds, but she had seven turnovers. I am extremely proud of her and her effort off the bench today. With her rebounding and her tenacity in the paint, she was very effective. And Chania from start to finish played her tail off tonight and that is probably a career-high in minutes and career-high in steals for her. She played a complete ballgame today."
On how the quick turnaround will look: "So, I look forward to this quick turnaround and getting back right away. You start watching film right away and figure out what can we do a little bit better tomorrow to find a way to win again."
