COMMERCE— The No. 4 Texas A&M University-Commerce women's basketball team defeated Angelo State 78-67 on Saturday afternoon, as part of Fill the Field House, presented by the Enrollment Management Division. The Lions built a large lead in the first quarter, and held off a late ASU push, never trailing in the game.
The win brings the Lions to 21-0 on the season and 15-0 in the Lone Star Conference. The Rambelles go to 12-6 on the year and 9-5 in conference play.
The Lions return to the court on Saturday as they host UT Tyler. The game will be played at 2 p.m. at the Field House.

Maddison Glass (Missouri City – Hightower) led the team with 15 points, and also had four assists.

DesiRay Kernal (Newton, Kan.) added 13 points, while
Alexus Jones (Lewisville – Aledo) had 10 points.

Dyani Robinson (Cypress - Langham Creek) had nine points and four assists, while
Agang Tac (Garland – Sachse) added nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.
- The Lions scored 26 points off of 20 ASU turnovers, while only having eight giveaways in the game.
- The Lions also had 25 fast break points to go with 18 offensive rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions hit a pair of early shots to jump out to the lead right off the bat. The Rambelles hit a pair of shots of their own as the Lions led 8-5 midway through the quarter. The Lions then went on a 12-0 run to take a big lead. Burleson and Robinson both had a couple buckets in the rally. The Lions led 23-8 after one quarter, holding ASU to just 19 percent shooting in the quarter.
The Lions pushed their lead to as many 19 early in the second quarter, as they hit two early threes. The Rambelles began to chip away at the Lion lead over the next several minutes, as the Lion lead was cut to just 11 points with a minute and a half remaining. The Lions led by 14 points at halftime.
Jones led the way with 10 points in the half, while Kernal added nine points. The Lions forced eight ASU turnovers in the first half, leading to 10 points.
The Lions pushed their lead back to 18 points and that's where the lead held for the rest of the quarter, as the teams battled back and forth throughout. At the end of the third quarter, the Lions led 63-45.
The Lions pushed their lead to 20 points before ASU went on a 9-0 run over the next three minutes to cut the Lion lead to just 11 points. A&M-Commerce brought its lead back to 14 points before the Rambelles again went on a run to cut the lead to just six points with three minutes left. The Lions responded with a late run and made free throws down the stretch to leave with the double-figure win.
