Lions thump UNT-Dallas for first DI win

COMMERCE – The Division I era began with a bang for the Texas A&M University-Commerce women's basketball on Monday night in the Field House as the Lions' collected a 96-51 win over UNT-Dallas.
 
Dyani Robinson (Langham Creek) knocked down a three-pointer six seconds into the game and the game was not tied again as the Lions led by as much as 46 points. Robinson shot 9 for 18 from the field for 22 points and grabbed five rebounds as well as four assists and three steals.
 
The Lions are now 1-0 in the Division I era and head on the road for their next three games. Behind Robinson's 22 points, both Mia Deck (Frisco – Lone Star) and Symmone James (McKinney – Boyd) had 11 points each. James shot 4 for 5 with grabbing five rebounds, and two steals. Deck had four rebounds, three assists, and four steals.
 
Laila Lawrence (Lewisville) scored 10 points off the bench and recorded four rebounds as well as three steals. The Lions had 17 steals in the game, which are the most in a game since 2021. DesiRay Kernal (Newton, Kan.) recorded seven points, six rebounds, three assists, and one steal.
 
The Lions played all 15 active players in the game. Nykale Cramer (Oklahoma City, Okla.) scored six points as well as two rebounds, while Zaria Collins (Plano) had eight points. A&M-Commerce shot 35 for 66 from the field, while UNT-Dallas shot 19 for 63.
 
Delyssa Miller had 15 points for the Trailblazers. The Lions bench scored 40 points, while as a team, A&M-Commerce had 35 fast break points and 50 points in the paint. Forcing 27 turnovers, the Lions scored 25 points off turnovers.
