Lions downed by IUPUI

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Texas A&M University-Commerce men's basketball did not tame the IUPUI Jaguars on Tuesday afternoon at Memorial Coliseum, falling 62-52, to close out the Indiana Classic, hosted by Purdue Fort Wayne.
 
The Lions trailed by as much as 14 in the first half, but fought back to pull to within two points in the second half, but could not tie the game and the Jaguars picked up their first win over a Division I opponent this season and improve to 3-10 on the season.
 
A&M-Commerce was held to shoot 38.5 percent from the field and 2 for 18 from the distance. IUPUI forced 13 turnovers and shot 51.1 percent, which is its best against a Division I opponent this season. The Jaguars averaged four three-pointers made per game coming into Tuesday and they started the game shooting 4 for 4 from outside the three-point arc.
 
Demarcus Demonia (Fort Washington, Md.) picked up two early fouls and had four fouls with more than eight minutes left in the game. He led the team with 10 points. Tommie Lewis (Vero Beach, Fla.) grabbed seven rebounds, while Jerome Brewer, Jr. (Camden, N.J.) had six.
 
Luka Vasic (Pirot, Serbia), who also was in foul trouble with four fouls, scored nine. He had a personal 5-0 run with the Lions down 14, to pull it back within single digits. Kalen Williams (Augusta, Ga.) scored 10 and forced three steals.
 
For the Jaguars, Jlynn Counter scored 23, while Brady Vincent II had 14 and Daylan Hamilton scored 14.
 
The Lions have lost five in a row and fall to 4-9 on the season with one more game left in non-conference play.
