No. 3/7 Lions down Aggies, move into a tie for LSC lead

LAWTON, Okla. – Behind 27 points from Dyani Robinson and 22 from Chania Wright, the No. 3/7 ranked Texas A&M University-Commerce women's basketball team dropped the Cameron Aggies, 92-69 at the Aggie Gym on Tuesday evening.
 
With the win, the Lions move to 8-2 in Lone Star Conference play and give the Aggies their second loss in conference. Cameron is 7-2 on the season. The Lions are atop the conference standings, tied with Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas Woman's. A&M-Commerce is 19-2 overall and coach Jason Burton recorded win no. 149 on Tuesday.
 
The Lions had the early 7-2 lead with three points from Wright (DeSoto) and two from Robinson (Langham Creek) and two from Asiyha Smith (Conway, Ark.). Cameron climbed back to take a 14-11 lead and had a 18-16 lead after the first quarter.
 
For the first 5:01 of the second quarter, the Lions held the Aggies to just one point and built a 28-19 lead during that stretch. With two minutes to go in the first half, Wright and Robinson knocked down a three pointer each and Robinson added two more free throws to give the Lions their largest lead of the first half, 43-29. Cameron's Maighan Hedge beat the buzzer with a three pointer to trail 43-32 at the half.
 
The Lions shot 51.7 percent from the field with Robinson and Wright combining for 29 points. Robinson shot 6 for 7 from the field and made two three pointers for 17 points. She also had four rebounds and two assists. Wright went 4 for 6 from the field in the first half for 12 points.
 
Stephanie Patterson had 17 points for the Aggies in the first half and Hedge had 10. Aggies shot 37.5 percent in the first half and 33.8 percent in the game. Peterson finished the game with 24 points to lead Cameron, Hedge had 23.
 
The Aggies were held to shoot 5 for 19 in the third quarter but went 6 for 6 at the line. The Lions shot 54.5 percent in the quarter and led 60-48 going into the fourth.
 
DesiRay Kernal (Newton, Kan.) scored 12 points in the fourth quarter. The Lions as a team shot 11 for 16 in the quarter and outscored the Aggies, 32-21. Kernal knocked down two free throws with three seconds left to give the Lions their largest lead of the game. She finished the game with 19 points, nine rebounds, and two steals. Kernal went 11 for 14 at the free throw line.
 
Kassie Boorer's layup went in just before the final buzzer to give the Lions a 92-69 win.
 
Robinson shot 10 for 13 from the field, making two three pointers, and knocked down five free throws to match her season-high of 27 points. She had a double-double with 10 rebounds and recorded five assists and a steal as well. Wright went 9 for 13 from the field for 22 points. She also totaled four rebounds and two assists.
 
Playing just 12 minutes, Laila Lawrence (Lewisville) went 6 for 6 from the field for 12 points and eight rebounds. Juliana Louis (Long Beach, Calif.) totaled four points, five rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal. Smith tallied four points, three rebounds, two assists, a block, and a steal.
 
Dorian Norris (Lake Dallas) scored two points and five rebounds off the bench, she also had a block. Jordyn Beaty (Woodville) had two points.
