COMMERCE – Four first half goals for the Texas A&M University-Commerce soccer team on Friday night at the Lion Soccer Field helped the Lions hold off Houston Christian, to win 4-3 and extend the winning streak to six.
The Lions improve to 4-0-1 on the season at home, which is the longest unbeaten streak at home to start the season since 2016. The six-match winning streak is the longest winning streak since a six-match winning streak in 2016 as well. The Lions are 5-0 to start conference play for the first time since 2004 and third time in program history.
A&M-Commerce is now 3-0 against HCU all-time and improves to 7-5-1 on the season. The Huskies are 3-8 overall and 1-4 in Southland play.
In Friday's match, all four goals for the Lions came in the first half and all four were via set pieces, with
Mindy Shoffit (Wichita Falls – Rider) recording three assists. She had three career assists in 59 matches played for the Lions prior to Friday.
Melissa Storey (Tyne and Wear, England) had three assists as well.
Shoffit had a throw in in the sixth minute that was received by

Hannah Bell (Duncanville), who scored her eighth goal of the season. She is one of three freshmen in the country with eight or more goals so far this season and has scored in all five conference matches.

th minute, the Lions were awarded a free kick on their defensive side of the field. Storey scored on a long free kick from Shoffit.

Kaydence Ramirez (Waxahachie) scored in the 19
th minute with a throw in from Shoffit landing near Storey, who headed it towards Ramirez, who scored for the third straight match.
KAYDENCE RAMIREZ SECOND GOAL HIGHLIGHT
The Huskies got one back in the 24
th minute with Katie Marker scoring on an assist from Mia Salas. A long shot from Salas was saved by the Lions, but Marker was there to kick in the rebound.
The Lions returned the favor in the 35
th minute with a similar goal.
Valerie Flores (Irving – MacArthur) had a kick from just inside the penalty box, which was saved by HCU, but
Savannah Powell (Arlington – Martin) was mere inches away to kick it in for her second goal of the season.
SAVANNAH POWELL GOAL HIGHLIGHT
A&M-Commerce scored four goals for the first time this season and they all came in the first half.
HCU did not waste time to make things interesting in the second half, scoring two goals in 20 seconds. Salas scored in the 48
th minute via assists from Evelyn Slaughter and Emily Jaimes, while Kat Lazor scored from an assist from Jaimes and Ryan Ford.
The Lions recorded 22 shots in the match, with 12 landing on goal, while HCU had 12 shots and six on goal.
Sophia Dean (Spring – Grand Oaks) made three saves for the Lions, while Taylor Sanderson recorded five saves in the first half and Chloe Bagshaw had three in the second half.
Ramirez had match-high six shots, while Bell had three. Salas had four shots off the bench for HCU.
