COMMERCE – The Texas A&M University-Commerce women's basketball team continues to roll to start the season, picking up an 80-56 win over the UNT-Dallas Trailblazers on Friday evening at the Field House.
 
The Lions are 2-0 to start the season for the first time as a Division I program. A&M-Commerce has started 2-0 for the fourth time in the last five years. Friday night was an exhibition contest for the Trailblazers.
 
In the game, A&M-Commerce shot 40 percent from the distance, making 14 three pointers, which is tied for the second most in a game in school history.  
 
The Lions started the game 2 for 2 from outside the arc to lead 6-0. Though UNT-Dallas never led in the game, it did pull to within a single possession twice in the first quarter, but the Lions also had a 9-0 run, which put them up by 13 in the first 10 minutes.
 
A 13-2 run which was capped off by back-to-back three pointers by 
Ahmya Boyce (Newport News, Va.) in the third quarter gave the Lions their largest lead of the night of 34 points. The Trailblazers trimmed the deficit to as small as 22, but ultimately fell by 24 in the game.
 
Mary Delgado (Miami, Fla.) came off the bench, but scored team-best 21 points on 7 for 12 shooting. She made four three-pointers and was 3 for 4 at the line. 
Jordyn Newsome (Irving – MacArthur) added 18 points, making five three-pointers. Boyce scored 14 and 
Mia Deck (Frisco – Lone Star) added 10.
 
Five Lions dished out four assists each in the game: Newsome, Boyce, Deck, 
Dorian Norris (Lake Dallas), and 
Jamy De Kock (Woudrichem, The Netherlands). Norris led the team with nine rebounds, while 
Olivia Russell (Auburn Hills, Mich.) and De Kock added seven each.
 
The Lions went 26 for 70 from the field, 14 for 35 from the distance, and 14 for 20 at the line.

The Lions head on the road to play their first two Division I opponents of the season. A&M-Commerce heads to New Mexico on Tuesday at 7 p.m. mountain and Texas Tech on Friday at 6 p.m.
