WACO – Cora Horvath scored career-high 22 points on the road at No. 17 ranked Baylor for the East Texas A&M University women's basketball team in the Lions' 104-55 loss to the Bears on Thursday night at the Foster Pavilion.
Baylor came into the game being ranked No. 17 in both the AP and the USA Today WBCA polls. The Bears are 2-1 on the season, both wins coming over Southland teams at home, while the Lions fall to 2-2.
The Bears jumped out to an 8-0 lead to start the game and led 23-13 at the 2:20 mark of the first quarter, but
Cora Horvath (Oberwart, Austria) hit a three pointer and
Nina Horvath (Oberwart, Austria) added a jumper to help the Lions end the first quarter on a 5-0 run, as Baylor led 23-18 after the first.
Just like the first quarter, the Bears came out of the gates strong in the second quarter, scoring the first 10 points of the period to push their lead to 33-18. The scoring margin did not hit single digits again in the game.
Cora Horvath shot 9 for 21 from the field, hitting four three-pointers for her 22 points, adding three rebounds, two assists, and two steals as well. Off the bench,
Nyaluak Dak (Lincoln, Neb.) had team-high six rebounds. Outside of Horvath, no other Lion scored in double digits. Seven points each came from
Jordyn Newsome (Irving – MacArthur),
Jasmine Payne (Birmingham, Ala.) and Dak.
Darianna Littlepage-Buggs was the leading scorer for the Bears with 22 points on 6 for 8 shooting. Five Baylor players scored in double digits, including four starters.
