Lion Softball falls to Nicholls in series finale

THIBODAUX, La. – The Texas A&M University-Commerce softball team fell 8-0 in five innings to the Nicholls Colonels on Saturday afternoon at Swanner Field.
 
The Lions left two runners on base in the second, while the Colonels plated three. Claire Sisco doubled to left center to lead off the inning. After a fly out, Emily Krause tripled to right center, scoring was Sisco and Mackenzie Champagne tripled to right, bringing home Krause.
 
After a pitching change, Abby Andersen drove in Champagne with a sacrifice fly to left.
 
Alexa Poche' was walked to start the second and she scored on an RBI double to left center by Molly VandenBout, who came around to score on a throwing error. Samantha Gwiazda tried to sacrifice bunt over VandenBout, but she was safe on the error as well.
 
Gwiazda reached on a fielding error in the outfield with an out in the fourth, reaching all the way to third, and scored on a single up the middle by Sisco. Reagan Heflin doubled to right center, plating Sisco, and Andersen drove in Heflin via a one-run base hit up the middle.
 
Andersen and Sisco had two hits each, totaling four of the team's seven hits. The Lions had just two hits in the game, Tehya Pitts (Denton – Guyer) led off the game with a base hit and Jenna Joyce (Royse City) came in as a pinch hitter, recording a base hit.
 
Maddie Muller (Frisco – Memorial) got the loss for the Lions, allowing three earned runs in 0.1 innings, while Molly Yoo got the complete-game five-inning shutout. She struck out four, allowing two hits and no walks.
 
The Lions are 7-36 overall and 0-15 in Southland play, while Nicholls is 22-17 overall and 9-3 in conference play.
