COMMERCE – A two-run single in the sixth inning on Thursday evening gave the Texas A&M University-Commerce softball team its first conference win at home this season, beating the Houston Christian Huskies 3-1 in the first game. The Huskies took the nightcap, 7-4, in eight innings.
The Lions are now 9-44 on the season with a game to go and 2-21 in Southland Conference play, while the Huskies are 21-25 overall and 8-15 in conference play.
Game 1: A&M-COMMERCE 3, HOUSTON CHRISTIAN 1
Haylie Savage led the game off with an eight-pitch walk. After a pair of outs, she stole second, and came around to score on a single down the right field line by Jasie Roberts.
The Lions came right back to tie the game in the bottom of the first.
Charli Anger (Lubbock – Cooper) hit a one-out double down the left field line and scored on a one-run double to left center by
Ashley Diaz (Chino, Calif.).
The game remained scoreless until the sixth.
Darby Hickey (Plano Senior) drew a walk and was pinch run for by
Emma Olsen (Elk Grove, Calif.). Diaz moved Olsen to second on a sacrifice bunt, while
Emmie Miehe (Cameron Park, Calif.) singled up the middle, as Olsen advanced to third, and then Miehe stole second.
Both Olsen and Miehe scored on a base hit through the right side by
Diamond Sefe (Carson, Calif.), who tried to advance to second on the throw, but was tagged out at second.

Julia Sanchez (The Kinkaid School) threw a two-hit complete game, while striking out eight. She allowed three walks and was charged with the lone run but has been the winning pitcher in six of the nine wins for the Lions this season.
For the Huskies, Ronni Grofman allowed an earned run in four innings, while Addy Prasifka was the losing pitcher, surrendering the go-ahead hit to Sefe.
Miehe went 2 for 3 in the game as the Lions had seven hits in the game. Roberts had both hits for the Huskies in the game.
GAME 2: HOUSTON CHRISTIAN 7, A&M-COMMERCE 4 (8 Innings)
Savage singled through the left side to lead off the second game, while Roberts reached on a fielder's choice as Savage was out at second on a groundball. Roberts stole second, while Grofman was hit by a pitch with two outs to extend the inning.
Jackie Jessup drove in Roberts with a single up the middle, as the Huskies left the bases loaded in the first. Juls Garcia tripled down the left field line with an out in the second and scored as Savage reached on a throwing error.
Roberts singled through the left side and advanced to second on a throw as Savage advanced to third. Grofman hit a two-run single down the right field line and put the Huskies up 4-0.
Sefe drew a walk and stole second to lead off the bottom of the second. Miehe also drew a walk, while Sefe advanced to third on a wild pitch on ball four.
Lencia Powell (Birdville) plated Sefe with a single up the middle, putting the first Lion run on the board.
In the fourth, Sefe doubled to left center and was safe at third on obstruction. She was originally called out at third, but the play was overturned after an A&M-Commerce challenge. Miehe hit a deep double to center, plating Sefe.
Shelby Hodge (Katy – Cinco Ranch) moved Miehe to third on a groundout, while Powell brought home Miehe on a groundout.
Miehe led off the sixth with a base hit through the left side and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
KK Cosek (Helendale, Calif.).
Isabella Arzola (Chino, Calif.) tied the game with a one-run single down the left field line, plating Miehe.

Tehya Pitts (Denton – Guyer) made a catch at the track.

The Lions left runners at the corners to end the seventh and sent the game into extra innings, A&M-Commerce's third extra-inning game this season.
Roberts reached on a Lion fielding error with no outs in the eighth. After a pop out, Roberts stole second and scored on a single through the left side by Grofman, who scored on a two-run home run to dead center by Maddy Bailey.
All three runs for the Huskies in the eighth were unearned. Kynleigh Evans got a no-decision for the Huskies, allowing two earned runs. Lyndie Swanson picked up the win, tossing four innings and striking out four, while allowing one run.
For the Lions,
Anissa Arredondo (San Antonio – Warren) surrendered two earned runs in two innings.
Maddie Muller (Frisco – Memorial) was charged with the loss, despite tossing six innings and not allowing an earned run.
The Huskies had 14 hits in the game. Garcia went 3 for 4, Savage was 2 for 5 as was Jessup, while Grofman was 2 for 4. For the Lions, Arzola was 3 for 4, Anger, Sefe, and Miehe had two hits each. A&M-Commerce recorded 12 hits.

The Lions close out the season on Friday at 5 p.m. against the Huskies. Senior Day ceremony to honor the three seniors will take place prior to the game.
