COMMERCE – Saturday's game between the East Texas A&M University men's basketball team and the New Orleans Privateers was tied at halftime on the Hunt Regional Healthcare Court at the Field House, but the Privateers picked up an 82-73 win over ET.
The Lions scored 11 of the first 14 points of the game, but the Privateers came all the way back to tie the game at 11. There were nine lead changes and five ties in the first half as UNO led by as much as four, while the Lions had the eight-point lead to start the game.
To start the second half, the Privateers scored eight of the first 10 points and led by as much 13 in the second half. There were no lead changes in the second half. UNO shot 56 percent in the game, while the Lions shot 50 percent from the field.
The loss drops the Lions to 2-16 on the season and 0-7 in Southland Conference play, its first 0-7 start to conference play since 1991-92, while the Privateers fall to 4-14 overall and 2-5 against conference opponents, having won their last two games.
Josh Taylor (Atlanta, Ga.) came off the bench, but led the Lions with 13 points on 5 for 6 shooting, while both
Yusef Salih (Gainesville, Va.) and
Tay Mosher (The Colony) scored 11 points each. Mosher also led the team with seven rebounds and
TJ Thomas (Memphis, Tenn.) had team-best five assists.
Two scorers for the Privateers scored 20 or more points as Jamond Vincent added 28 points and seven rebounds, while Kohen Rowbatham added 24 points off the bench, going 7 for 10 from the field and 9 for 11 at the line.
The Privateers scored 25 points off 21 turnovers forced, while the Lions forced 14 and scored 23 off turnovers. The Lion bench outscored the Privateer bench, 38-33.
