NACOGDOCHES – Four East Texas A&M University women's basketball players scored in double digits on Monday evening, but the Lions fell 92-65 to the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks at William R. Johnson Coliseum.
The Ladyjacks started the game leading 6-0, but the Lions got to within two, scoring six of eight. SFA then went on a 14-0 run to jump ahead 22-6, leading by as much as 17 in the first quarter. The Lions went 0 for 9 from the outside in the first quarter, while SFA went 3 for 7.
The Lions shot 9 for 18 from the field in the second quarter, as SFA had the 23-19 in scoring during the second period. SFA's largest lead in the game was 38 points. East Texas A&M missed its first 23 three-point attempts from the outside, going 3 for 28 in the game. SFA went 13 for 29.
The Lions fall to 4-14 on the season and 1-8 against Southland Conference opponents, while SFA improves to 16-5 overall, 6-4 in conference play, and 6-0 all-time against the Lions.
Off the bench,
J'Unti Franklin (Natchitoches, La.) led the Lions in scoring with 13 points, hitting three shots from deep, while
Jordyn Newsome (Irving – MacArthur),
Nina Horvath (Oberwart, Austria), and
Jasmine Payne (Montgomery, Ala.) scored 10 points each.
Alva Hedrich (Muecke, Germany) led the Lions with 10 rebounds as well. SFA had the 44-36 advantage in rebounding.
For the Ladyjacks, Harmanie Dominguez added 17 points to lead the way as six players scored in double digits, including all five starters.
