Fetty serves up eight aces as Lions sweep Colonels

COMMERCE – Behind a hitting percentage of .402 with just eight errors in the match, the East Texas A&M University volleyball team coasted to a 3-0 win on Wednesday night at the Hunt Regional Healthcare Court in the Field House via set scores of 25-22, 25-15, and 25-9 over Nicholls.

Wednesday was the annual Pink Out match for the Lions, presented by Hunt Regional. East Texas A&M picked up its first Southland Conference win at home to improve to 5-13 overall and 3-4 in conference play, while the Colonels fall to 10-10 overall and 0-7 in SLC action.

Rendi Fetty (Farmersville) served up eight aces in the match, which is tied for second most in a three-match in Division I this season.

The Lions won the first five points of the match and had a lead as big as six in the first set, but the Colonels came all the way back to tie the set at 17. Another 5-0 run by the Lions provided a cushion to win the set on a kill by Peyton Roper (Converse – Judson).

In the second set, the Lions won the first four points, including three aces from Fetty, as East Texas A&M had a 10-2 lead to begin the second. The Lions' largest lead in the set was 11 points as they took the set on an attacking error. East Texas A&M hit .571 in the second set.

An 11-1 run to begin the set, which included another stretch of three straight aces by Fetty, helped the Lions cruise in the third set. The final five points of the set went to the Lions as a kill by Courtney Green (West Jordan, Utah) secured the win for the Lions.

Gracie Campbell (Klein Oak) added 18 kills and eight digs, while Haley Mullaney (Victory Christian Academy) had 32 assists, while Jade Washington (Waco – Midway) had 23 digs.
