NORMAN, Okla. – Just one point separated the East Texas A&M University women's basketball team and the No. 8/7 ranked Oklahoma Sooners at the 5:51 mark of the first quarter on Wednesday night, but the Sooners scored the next 14 and pulled away for a 112-59 win at the Lloyd Noble Center.
The Sooners played in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament a season ago and were ranked No. 8 in the Associated Press and No. 7 in the USA Today/WBCA Coaches Poll this week. East Texas A&M falls to 2-2 on the season, while Oklahoma improves to 5-1.
The long scoring run in the first quarter allowed the Sooners to lead 34-21 at the end of the first quarter and lead by as much as 58 points in the game. Raegan Beers scored 23 points in 17 minutes, while Sahara Williams totaled 22 points for Oklahoma. Beers, Williams, and Payton Verhulst had double-doubles in the game.
Reza Po (San Bruno, Calif.) was the Lion leading scorer, totaling 15 points, going 7 for 7 at the line, while
Tiani Ellison (Durant, Okla.) scored 14 points, shooting 6 for 13 from the field.
All but three Lions that appeared in the game scored at least two points as six of the 18 made field goals came from deep, and the Lions went 17 for 18 at the line.
