NATCHITOCHES, La. – The East Texas A&M University women's basketball team ended the 2024-25 season with a 76-56 loss to the Northwestern State Lady Demons on Wednesday night at Prather Coliseum.
The Lions end the season with a record of 7-22 overall and 4-16 in Southland Conference play, while the Lady Demons swept the season series over the Lions and head into next week's SLC Tournament as the fifth seed with a record of 15-14 overall and 12-8 in conference play.

Northwestern State scored the first five points of the game, but the Lions tied the game at five and jumped ahead 12-10 on a 7-2 run as Newsome hit a jumper. A layup from
Nina Horvath (Oberwart, Austria) started a 9-2 run for the Lions, who led 21-16 with 38 seconds to go, their largest in the game.
At the 7:43 mark of the second quarter, the Lions lead 25-20, but the Lady Demons held East Texas A&M to just six points the rest of the first half and were held to just four points for the first seven and a half minutes of the third quarter.
Newsome halted a 7-0 run for the Lady Demons with a three-pointer in the second quarter, but the Lady Demons scored the next eight to pull ahead 35-28, the largest lead for NSU in the first half.
The Lions scored the first three points of the second half, but the Lady Demons scored 17 of the next 18, including an 11-0 run. The Lady Demons' largest lead in the game was 24 points.
Newsome finished the game with 19 points, four steals, three rebounds, and two blocks.
Cora Horvath (Oberwart, Austria) tallied 14 points, four assists, two rebounds, and a block.
Alva Hedrich (Muecke, Germany) posted nine rebounds.
Three starters scored in double digits for the Lady Demons with Nia Hardison scoring 21, Mya Blake adding 19, and Vernell Atamah scoring 16 and recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds.
