HAMMOND, La. – Despite a two-run home run from
Stephanie Tapia in the first, the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions took a 10-2 win in six innings over the East Texas A&M University softball team on Saturday morning at North Oak Park.
East Texas A&M is now 4-21 overall and 0-3 in Southland Conference play, while Southeastern is 18-7 overall and 3-0 in SLC action.
Maddie Cason (Honey Grove) drew a one-out walk on four pitches and advanced to second on a groundout. Tapia (Yuma, Ariz.) hit her fourth home run of the season, this one to right center to plate the first two runs of the game.
STEPHANIE TAPIA HOME RUN HIGHLIGHT
In the bottom of the first, Shelby Morris singled in the infield to lead off the inning and then stole second. After a line out, she scored on an RBI single up the middle by Maria Detillier.
Maddie Watson drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the second and was pinch run for by Brilee Broussard. Colleen Kullivan drew a walk as well, while Broussard advanced to third on a fielder's choice. Shenita Tucker plated Broussard with a sacrifice fly to left, tying the game after two innings.
Chloe Magee was hit by a pitch to lead off the third and came around to score on a double to left center by Detillier. After a pitching change, Bryce Walsh came in as a pinch hitter and was hit by a pitch. Following a flyout, Watson loaded the bases with a walk and Detillier scored on an RBI groundout by Kulivan.
Southeastern plated five, including four with two outs, in the fourth on six hits and two errors committed by East Texas A&M. Tucker singled through the left side, stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error, and scored on an RBI groundout by Morris.
After a flyout, Detillier doubled to left center and Walsh singled to left, plating Detillier. Walsh scored on a triple to right center by Cydnee Schneider, who scored on an RBI double to center by Watson.
Kulivan extended the inning by reaching on a fielding error, while Kailey Dixon singled in the infield to bring home Watson.
Walsh walked to start the bottom of the sixth and advanced to second a groundout and to third on a wild pitch. She scored on a Lion fielding error to end the game.
East Texas A&M had just two hits in the game with Tapia and Cason recording a hit each. Detillier went 3 for 4 for Southeastern, who had nine hits and four walks in the game.
Julia Sanchez (The Kinkaid School) got the loss for East Texas A&M, allowing four earned runs in two innings, while Macie LaRue got the win for Southeastern, tossing 2.2 shutout innings in relief.
