COMMERCE – Reza Po became the first East Texas A&M University women's basketball player to score 30 points in six years as the Lions rolled to a 90-73 win over the New Orleans Privateers on Thursday night on the Hunt Regional Healthcare Court in the Field House.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Lions, who improve to 8-10 on the season and 4-7 in Southland Conference play. New Orleans falls to 1-19 overall and 1-11 against SLC opponents.
The eight wins is one more than last season. This is the first time since 2022-23 that the Lions took the season series over the Privateers.
After scoring the first five points of the game, the Lions had the lead for the entirety of the game. The closest that the Privateers got to within taking the lead was at 7-6 on a string of six of eight points, but then the Lions answered with a 9-0 run.
The Lions had a lead as high as 17 in the second quarter, shooting 51.4 percent from the field and 6 for 13 from deep in the first half. Po (San Bruno, Calif.) led the way with 16 points through the first 20 minutes.
The largest lead in the game was 27 points for the Lions. The 90 points scored is the second most in a conference game in the Division I era. East Texas A&M went 11 for 27 from deep.
In the game, Po totaled 33 points along with two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. She is the first Lion since Chania Wright in 2020 to score 30 or more points in a game.
Cora Horvath (Oberwart, Austria) added 11 points, seven assists, and three rebounds. For the Privateers, Lauren Brooks scored 22 along with seven rebounds, which also led the team.
