Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

First-ever win over Southeastern pushes winning streak to five

COMMERCE – Tiani Ellison tallied 22 points and 14 rebounds on Thursday night as the East Texas A&M University women's basketball team won its fifth straight overall and sealed its first ever win over Southeastern Louisiana, 66-57, at the Hunt Regional Healthcare Court in the Field House.

The game was tied at 22 at the half. East Texas A&M outscored SLU by nine in the second half, leading by as much as 16 in the fourth quarter. The five straight wins are the most for the Lions since the 2022-23 season. East Texas A&M is now 12-10 overall and 8-7 in Southland Conference play, while Southeastern falls to 4-19 overall and 3-13 in SLC action.

Coming into Thursday, SLU had won the previous eight all-time meetings over East Texas A&M, including a 76-71 win in Hammond earlier this season.

East Texas A&M put together a string of four points in a row at the end of the first to lead 15-11 with 1:02 left in the period, the first time the lead was bigger than three for either team. SLU hit a jumper with less than 10 seconds left and then scored nine of the first 12 points of the second quarter to lead 22-18 with 1:45 left in the half, its largest of the game.

Cora Horvath (Oberwart, Austria) beat the halftime buzzer to tie the game at 22. East Texas A&M took advantage of a three-minute scoring drought for the Lady Lions to go up 32-26 in the third quarter.

A three-pointer on the final possession of the third and a jumper to start the fourth, brought Southeastern within 42-41 with 9:21 left in the game.

Another scoring drought of over five minutes helped East Texas A&M build a game-best 59-43 lead. Southeastern scored the final five points of the game.

Ellison (Durant, Okla.) recorded her fourth double-double of the season, while Cora Horvath scored 18 points and Nina Horvath (Oberwart, Austria) tallied 12 points, six assists, and two blocks.

Aaliyah Collins had 21 points to lead the way for Southeastern.
