DENTON – A pair of runs in the first and then two more in the fifth helped the North Texas Mean Green take a 4-0 win over the East Texas A&M University softball team on Wednesday evening at Lovelace Stadium.
The loss drops the Lions to 5-6 on the season, while the Mean Green are now 3-8 on the year. The two teams play each other twice more this weekend in Commerce.
Seven batters came to the plate in the bottom of the first for the Mean Green as they scored two runs on four hits.
Bradi Harman drew a leadoff walk, followed by a base hit to shortstop from Ariah Mitchell. After a flyout advanced Harman to third, Elizabeth Moffitt doubled to center, plating Harman. Mitchell came around to score on a base hit to right by Riley McNemar.
Maddie Muller (Frisco – Memorial) started the game in the circle for the Lions, giving up two earned runs in 0.1 innings.
Madison Kloepper (Llano) came in and got the final two outs of the inning in order. Muller fell to 1-2 in the circle.
The Mean Green added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth with Madison Conley doubling to center. Moffitt followed with a home run to right center.
Jenna Joyce (Royse City) went 2 for 3 at the plate for the Lions, while
Charli Anger (Lubbock – Cooper),
Melina Peralez (Monroe, Ind.) and
KK Cosek (Helendale, Calif.) had a hit each.
For the Mean Green, Moffitt and Conley combined for four of the team's nine hits. Anneca Anderson tossed the complete-game shutout, striking out eight.
