Lions fall in five to the Huskies in series finale

COMMERCE – Eleven unanswered in the final three innings of Saturday afternoon's game helped the Houston Christian Huskies take a 15-4 win in five innings over the East Texas A&M University softball team at the John Cain Family Softball Complex.

The Huskies plated three in the top of the first on a three-run home run by Maddy Bailey. Jocelyn Briseno hit a sacrifice fly to left in the second.

All four runs came via a two-out rally in the second by the Lions to tie the game. KK Cosek (Helendale, Calif.) hit an RBI double to bring in Gracie Alejo (Waco – Connally), while Tatum Wright (Frisco – Centennial) hit a three-run home run, scoring Cosek and Isabella Arzola (Chino, Calif.) on the play.

The long ball by Wright was her 15th home run of the season, moving her into fifth all-time in single season home runs in program history.

The Huskies re-took the lead on a pair of unearned runs in the third as Madison Dominguez reached on a fielder's choice and a run scored on a throwing error to the plate, while Briseno added a one-run single.

Seven runs came around to score in the fourth. Karlie Barba and Chloe Foster hit one-run base hits, Breana Herrera had a two-run double, Tayden Alexander reached on a fielding error to allow a run to score, and Jade Moreno hit a two-run double.

In the fifth, Dominguez drove in another run on a base hit, while Cara Pitman reached on a fielder's choice as a run scored.

Madison Kloepper (Llano) recorded just one out in the game and got the loss, being charged with three earned runs. Leah Hammack came in relief with the game tied at four to get the win, she did not allow a run in three innings of work.

The Lions fall to 6-43 overall and 1-23 in Southland Conference play, while the Huskies swept the series to improve to 10-34 overall, 7-17 in conference action, and 10-2 all-time against the Huskies.
