Lion Softball ends season with losses to Cowgirls on Senior Day

COMMERCE – The East Texas A&M University softball team ended its season with a pair of losses by scores of 6-0 and 9-0 on Saturday to the McNeese Cowgirls as part of Senior Day at John Cain Family Softball Complex.
 
SENIOR DAY
Following the conclusion of the game, the Lions honored their eight seniors: KK Cosek (Helendale, Calif.), Lexi Gamez (Orange, Calif.), Emmie Miehe (Cameron Park, Calif.), Hailey Montemayor (Lubbock – Monterrey), Maddie Muller (Frisco – Memorial), Emma Olsen (Elk Grove, Calif.), Emma Rodrigues (Little Elm – John Paul II), and Tatum Wright (Frisco – Centennial).
 
The Lions end the season with a record of 6-46 overall and went 1-26 against Southland Conference opponents. The Cowgirls improved to 35-18 overall, 18-9 in conference play, and finished second in the final SLC standings.
 
GAME 1: MCNEESE 6, EAST TEXAS A&M 0
The first game of the day was a resumption from Friday night's game two of the series with the Cowgirls leading 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
 
A double steal in the fifth allowed Maddie Weeks to score, while Corrine Poncho hit a solo home run to left. The Cowgirls attempted double steals with runners at first and third in both the sixth and seventh innings, each time a run scored with Meiko Dominguez scoring in the sixth and Adriana Mireles scoring in the seventh. The Lions got the out at second both times.
 
Brookelyn Taylor tossed a complete-game shutout for the Cowgirls, allowing four hits and striking out eight. Muller went the distance as well, allowing five earned runs.
 
Wright, Aaliyah Wilcox (Covington, Ga.), Layni Kimura (Westminster, Calif.) had a hit each in the game.
 
GAME 2: MCNEESE 9, EAST TEXAS A&M 0 (Six Innings)
Before the first out of the game was recorded, Rylee Cloud hit a three-run home run in the first. Jada Munoz came around to score on a double steal in the first as well.
 
Another double steal attempt allowed Dibbley to score in the second as Lions got the out at second. Munoz mashed a solo home run in the third.
 
In the sixth, Dunham hit an RBI single and then both Kassidy Chance and Nyjah Fontenot hit sacrifice flies to drive in a run each.
 
Olsen was charged with four earned runs in 3.1 innings for the loss, while Maddie Taylor went the distance for a shutout win, striking out two.
 
Both Cosek and Charli Anger (Lubbock – Cooper) had a hit each in the game.
