COMMERCE – The East Texas A&M University athletics department's success in the classroom continued during the Spring 2026 semester, posting a 3.12 semester grade point average across all 285 student-athletes.
Eight sport programs posted a semester GPA of 3.30 or higher, including all women's programs. Ten programs also hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher.
"Spring 2026 reflects more than academic success, it represents our continued commitment to building a culture of excellence, expanding opportunities, and growing stronger together as a department," said Assistant Athletics Director for Academic Support
Antonia Anderson. "Congratulations to our teams and student-athletes individually for continuing to balance academics along with their sport obligations."
Individually, 191 student-athletes posted term GPAs of 3.00 or better during the spring semester, including 66 student-athletes that posted perfect 4.0 GPAs. Overall, 67 percent of the student-athletes at East Texas A&M recorded a term GPA of 3.00 or better this past fall.
For the spring sports of men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, softball, and men's and women's track & field, a total of 107 student-athletes were named to the Southland Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll. In the 2025-26 academic year, 203 student-athletes were named to the SLC Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Three student-athletes were also named Southland Conference Academic Student-Athletes of the Year in their respective sport this academic year, which is the most in a single season since joining the conference. The athletic department also had its first Academic All-American since 2022-23 this year as well.

East Texas A&M also graduated 67 Lion student-athletes during December commencement ceremonies, which are the most in the Division I era. In total, 85 current student-athletes have graduated this academic year thus far.
"The continued academic success of our Lion student-athletes is a tremendous reflection of their dedication, discipline, and commitment to excellence both in the classroom and in competition, said Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Tammi Vacha-Haase. "These achievements demonstrate the great partnership between our student-athletes, coaches, faculty, academic staff, and the entire East Texas A&M University community. We are proud of their accomplishments and the example they continue to set as leaders on campus and beyond."
