INDIANAPOLIS – East Texas A&M University Director of Athletics Jim Curry has been selected to represent the Southland Conference on the NCAA Division I Football Championship Committee.
 
Curry, who is in his fourth year as the leader of Northeast Texas' only Division I athletics program, was appointed to the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Oversight Committee last October but will now move to the panel tasked with selecting and seeding the 24 teams that will compete in the Division I FCS playoffs.
 
Since his arrival at East Texas A&M, the Lions have cultivated the largest philanthropic gift in school history as well as the largest corporate sponsorship agreement. On the playing surface, the athletics department set a record for most all-conference honorees during the 2025-26 academic year, while achieving new highs in Academic Progress Rate (APR) and graduation rate. East Texas A&M is one of just six schools across the FCS to have an NFL Draft pick, Academic All-American, and a AP First-Team All-American during the past three years.
 
The 11-person Football Championship Committee's primary function is to oversee the NCAA Division I FCS Football Championship including selecting and bracketing teams to participate in the championship field. The committee also evaluates teams throughout the season and serves as the chairs for their respective regional advisory committees during the regular season.
