Texas A&M-Commerce Name, Image, and Likeness Policy

As of July 1, 2021, student-athletes CAN profit off their own name, image, and likeness.

• According to Texas State Law, student-athletes are REQUIRED to report all contracts in which they intend to enter.
• All student-athletes are REQUIRED to undergo a 5-hour financial literacy and life skills workshop at the beginning of their 1st and 3rd year at Texas A&M-Commerce. Topics will include financial aid, debt management, time management, budgeting, and academic resources available to student-athletes.
• Compliance MUST approve all contracts before you sign them. This is done through the disclosure feature on INFLCR. All Texas A&M-Commerce student-athletes have access.

What IS permissible?

• Student-athletes MAY make factual statements (example: “I am a member of the Texas A&M-Commerce Softball team.”) while promoting or profiting from their personal brand.
• Student-Athletes MAY earn money by signing autographs.
• Student-athletes MAY enter into contracts with boosters, provided the activity is in accordance with Texas State Laws, is not an impermissible inducement, and does not constitute “pay-for-play.”

What is NOT permissible?

• Student-athletes MAY NOT enter into contracts which conflict with Texas A&M-Commerce Athletics’ existing sponsorships (example: Because Texas A&M-Commerce is an Under Armour school, you cannot enter into a personal contract with Nike, Adidas, etc.).
• Student-athletes MAY NOT enter into contracts to endorse alcohol, tobacco products or e-cigarettes, steroids, sports betting, casino gambling, firearms that you cannot legally purchase, or sexually-oriented business.
• Student-athletes MAY NOT enter into contract terms for longer than their remaining eligibility.
• Student-athletes MAY NOT use Texas A&M-Commerce property while promoting or profiting from your personal brand.
• Texas A&M-Commerce Athletics MAY NOT provide or arrange NIL contracts for you.
