Joe Caldwell joined Lion Athletics as the Senior Director of Sports Performance in January 2019.
Prior to A&M-Commerce, Caldwell was the co-lead assistant strength and conditioning coach at Rice University. During his time with the Owls, Caldwell assisted in the design and instruction of prescribed workout regiments for the football team, lead warmups in team lifting sessions and practice, prescribed in-season conditioning programs, coordinated with athletic trainers for athletes returning from injury and assisted in freshmen orientation. Prior to his time as co-lead assistant, Caldwell was the strength and conditioning intern at Rice. He worked under coaches Kevin Yoxall and Ryan Tedford.
Prior to his time at Rice, Caldwell was an intern strength and conditioning coach at Auburn University, where he worked with the football, softball and equestrian teams.
Caldwell earned his bachelor's degree in physical education and health at Auburn, where he was also a middle linebacker on the football team. He was a member of Auburn's 2010 BCS National Championship team.
Caldwell is currently the Vice Chair of the Lone Star Conference’s Athletic Performance team.
Caldwell holds certifications in SCCC through the CSCCa, CSCS through the NSCA, CPR, AED and first aid.
Caldwell is also a certified Mentor for the CSCCa, which allows him to administer the CSCCa Practicum of 640 hours to earn the opportunity to sit for the SCCC Certification Exam.
