Trent Phelps joined the Lion track and field and cross country staff in the summer of 2020 after a stellar running career at Dallas Baptist University, where he earned his bachelor and master's degrees in kinesiology.
He was a graduate assistant for the cross country and track and field teams at DBU from 2018-20, where he coached nine Lone Star Conference champions, three Heartland Conference champions, one All-American, and three national qualifiers. He supervised and developed academic and athletic progress, coordinated prospective student-athlete recruiting visits and events, coordinated travel logistics, and created training programs for the Patriots.
He is a NCAA Division II cross country national qualifier and two-time NCAA Division II outdoor 3,000-meter steeplechase national qualifier. He was named All-South Central Region three times, was a two-time all-Lone Star Conference selection, two-time all-Heartland Conference selection, and Academic All-American.
Trent and his wife, Bailey, were married in 2020.
