Tyler Schiffelbein

Tyler Schiffelbein joined Lion Athletics in December of 2015 after a short stint as head coach at Bethany College (Kansas), where the women's team enjoyed runner-up, third, and fourth place finishes last fall, while the men also had two top-five finishes.

Prior to Bethany, Schiffelbein served as the head men's and women's coach at Iowa Western Community College from 2011 to 2014.  In his tenure at Iowa Western, the Reivers set multiple school and national records, and both programs were continuously ranked inside the top 15 in the country.

The 2014 season proved to be the banner year for the men's program completed the season with a third place finish at the NJCAA National Championships, marking the third consecutive season with a top ten finish (10th in 2012, 6th in 2013).

The women's program won their fourth consecutive NJCAA Region XI Championship by 99 shots (a national record) - eclipsing the previous record of 67 shots that was set by the Reivers in 2013 - and finished the season fifth at the NJCAA National Championships. For these performances, Coach Schiffelbein was presented with his fourth straight NJCAA Region XI Coach of The Year honor, the first time this was achieved by any coach in the region.

In total, Coach Schiffelbein has coached nine NJCAA Academic-All Americans, 11 NJCAA All-Region selections, seven NJCAA All- Americans, and the 2014 NJCAA Player of the Year, along with 19 team titles and more that 45 All-Tournament Team individual selections.  His teams also finished with a combined 3.0-plus GPA for his entire tenure with Iowa Western, while also combining 20-plus hours of community service.

Coach Schiffelbein came to Iowa Western from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan., where he served as the graduate assistant coach for both the men's and women's golf programs in 2010 and 2011.  In two short seasons, both the Tiger men and women saw their first team victory in over four seasons and the men won consecutive tournament titles for the first time in school history.

Prior to coming to Fort Hays State, Schiffelbein served as an assistant PGA Teaching Professional at Reflection Ridge Golf Course in Wichita from 2009 to 2010.  During this time there, Schiffelbein earned his PGA teaching certification while also competing in various professional mini tours, with the highlight coming from qualifying for the 2009 PGA Assistant Professional National Championships. He was also named to the Play Golf American Top Teachers in Kansas in both 2008 and 2009.

Before turning professional, Schiffelbein was the lead short game instructor at the Maine Golf and Tennis Academy in Belgrade, Maine from 2005 to 2007 while also serving as the Director of Golf Instruction in 2014, which was named the number one Junior Golf Camp in America by Sports Illustrated in 2007.

Coach Schiffelbein played collegiately for Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan. from 2005 to 2007, where he was named to the NCAA All-Midwest Region team in 2006 as well as the NCAA Academic All-American teams in both 2006 and 2007.  Prior to attending FHSU, Coach Schiffelbein played for Dodge City Community College in Dodge City, Kan. from 2003 to 2005, where he was part of back-to-back Jayhawk Conference Championship teams and was a two-time NJCAA National Championship qualifier.

A native of Perryton, Texas, Schiffelbein graduated from Perryton High School in 2003. He was a two-time All-District and All-Region selection for the Rangers and helped lead Perryton to its only team State Championship in school history when they claimed the title in 2002.  Coach Schiffelbein holds an associate's degree from Dodge City Community College (2005), a bachelor's in Sports Management and Recreation from Fort Hays State University (2007), and a master's in Sports Studies from Fort Hays State University (2011).
