Dr. Scott Pierce began his role as the Chief Medical Officer of Athletics at East Texas A&M University in August 2023.
Dr. Pierce is currently on staff at Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville, where he has served as an emergency physician and family practice physician, as well as serving in multiple leadership positions at the hospital. Dr. Pierce currently serves as Chairman of the Board of the Hunt Memorial Hospital District.
Since the summer of 2023, Dr. Pierce, with the coordination of the hospital and multiple medical practices in the Hunt Regional network, has been working to develop a county-wide sports medicine program. This program continues to grow and is currently serving 14 high school districts to ensure the best care for all athletes in our community. The partnership with East Texas A&M, Director of Athletics Jim Curry, and the Athletic Training staff has been instrumental in the development of these initiatives.
Dr. Pierce moved to Hunt County in 1997 directly out of residency. He has been an active member of the medical staff at the hospital, has served in various leadership positions to include Chief of Staff, Chief of the Emergency Department, and various other chairmanships and committee assignments throughout the hospital. He participates in hospital activities and is involved in various outreach and medical initiatives.
Dr. Pierce attended Texas A&M University in College Station for undergraduate work and graduated in 1990 from the Biomedical Science Department with a Bachelor of Science degree. He was accepted into the University of North Texas Health Science Center, Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth for medical school and graduated in 1994 with a Doctor of Osteopathy degree. He finished his medical education with the residency program in Family Practice at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas and graduated in 1997. He moved to Greenville in 1997 and joined the medical staff at Hunt Regional Medical Center. He has been instrumental in developing many new service lines to include development of the Hospitalist service, expansion of hospital ER Services to multiple locations in the county, and has been on the Board of Directors since 2018. Dr. Pierce is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine and Family Practice with special interest in Sports Medicine.
Dr. Pierce was raised in Abilene, where his love of sports began as he grew up playing football and baseball teams with his brothers. He proudly served four years in the U.S Army in the 82nd Airborne Division stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After his military service he started his undergraduate education at Texas A&M.
He and his wife Gayle have four children and five grandchildren. He has been an avid sports fan and supporter of college athletics since his time at Texas A&M, making his partnership with East Texas A&M Athletics a dream come true.
