Julia Herzinger was appointed as an assistant coach for the East Texas A&M University softball team by head coach Rodney DeLong in July 2026.
Herzinger joins the Lion coaching staff after spending the past two seasons as an assistant coach at McLennan Community College. The program went a combined 93-24 in two seasons with Herzinger on the staff, advancing to the NJCAA Division I World Series in both seasons. In the final rankings of the season, McLennan CC was ranked second in the country in 2025 and eighth in 2026.

The Highlanders ranked 10th in triples, 13th in doubles as a team, 14th in the country in team batting average last season. During the 2025 season, McLennan CC led the country in triples, second in the country in team batting average, eighth in home runs, fourth in doubles, and second in slugging percentage.

Herzinger wrapped up her playing career at Sam Houston. In two seasons with the Bearkats, she appeared in 98 games, batting .273 with seven home runs, 11 doubles, and 35 RBIs. She started 76 games.

She began her collegiate career at McLennan CC, appearing in 57 games and batted .344 with eight doubles, four triples and set the program’s single season record with 20 home runs. She was a first team All-America selection.

A native of Magnolia, Texas, Herzinger was a first team all-district and first team all-county selection at Magnolia High School. She received her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Sam Houston.
