11 members of the Lone Star
Conference North Division champion Texas A&M
University-Commerce football team were selected for all conference
honors; in addition, four were selected for individual awards as
Lone Star Conference officials announced the annual football awards
on Thursday. The Lions won its first outright divisional title
since 1990 with a perfect 5-0 record in the LSC North.
Earning first team offense all-Lone
Star Conference honors were running back Marcus Graham, offensive
linemen R.J. Brisbon and David Sudderth and kicker Ahmed Abo-Mahmood. The Lions also had four selections on the defensive
side including defensive tackle William Green, inside linebacker
Cory Whitfield, defensive back Israel Hughes and safety Alex Contreras.
Also earning individual recognition
in the North Divison was Brisbon, who was selected as the
co-Offensive Lineman of the Year, Green as the Defensive Lineman of
the Year and Whitfield as the Linebacker of the Year. Plus, Head
Coach Guy Morriss was selected as the Coach of the Year. The
recognition by Morriss is the first time since Eddie Vowell was
honored in 1990. It also marks the third-straight year that the
Lions have had the Defensive Lineman of the Year. It is the
second-straight year that Brisbon has earned recognition as the
Offensive Lineman of the Year.
Quarterback Adam Farkes, tight end
Reid Herchenbach and inside linebacker Stephen DeGrate earned
honorable mention recognition.
