S.M.U. WAS HERE IN FULL FORCE

Southern Methodist University Football Squad Guests of E.T.N.C.

GAME A TIE.
A magnificent struggle played to a tie score of 0 to 0 was the result of Sat. afternoon's gam. The game was fill of exciting situations and brilliant plays and was witnessed by a large crowd. The only serious incident was a broken nose sustained by a S.M.U. player.

The football eleven of Southern Methodist University of Dallas, accompanied by a large delegation of fans, arrived on the one o'clock Cotton Belt Saturday for the big game with the E.T.N.C. that afternoon. The coming to Commerce of these atheletic representatives of this great University is a compliment to Commerce and speaks well for The East Texas Normal College.

PRIZES AWARDED E.T.N.C. PLAYERS
Last Saturday night at a banquet in the Mess Hall of E.T.N.C., in honor of the S.M.U. football players, two prizes were awarded the two best players on the E.T.N.C. squad. Mr. Chas. Johnson received the first a head helmet. Mr. Watson receiving the second, a brand new fotball. These two men are considered the best two all round men on the squad.

Twelve sweaters were awarded to the twelve best men as follows:
Chas. Johnson, Watson, L. Johnson, Herbert Wheeler, Clifton, Jake Jernigin, Jesse Finch, Anderson, Hurley, Henry Folks, Doc Mayo and Burr Pomeron.

However special mention was made of the playing of Rick, Spear and Davis.

Games will probably be had with T.C.U., Trinity, S.M.U., Austin College and several other leading Colleges next year althugh nothing is positive as yet.

Historical Note:
The Commerce Journal notes this as a varsity contest for E.T.N.C., while a preview in the Dallas Morning News notes that the SMU squad was made up of ineligible transfer players and freshmen.
