Releasing a terrific ground and aerial offense, Coach Bob Berry's Lions rolled to their second straight win with a convincing 27-0 victory over the Northwestern Louisiana Normal Demons at Natchitoches, September 27.
Playing under game conditions on a dry field for the first time of the season, the Berrymen touched off a strong running attack in the first period. Speedy Bill Hawkins rounded the Demon left end for nine yards and a touchdown in the first 12 minutes of play. The second period had hardly begun when James (Cargo) Batchelor tossed 27 yards to Bobby Griffin in the Demon end zone for the second Lion score. Tom Ramey converted to put the East Texans out in front 13-0. The Lions scored two more touchdowns in the fourth period when James Batchelor drove over from the one-yard line to climax a long downfield drive. Griffin's kick was good. In the closing minutes of the game, James Batchelor fired another touchdown pass, this time to Freshman back, David Hurst. Griffin converted to finish East Texas State's scoring.
