The West Texas State Buffaloes turned a close-fought first-half ball game into a third-quarter rout to take the East Texas Lions for a 41-7 victory in Canyon. The game had possibilities of being a close contest when the teams left the field at half-time with the score resting at 13 to 0. However, a third-quarter uprising by Coach Frank Kimbrough's Buff's raised the score to 34-7 at the beginning of the final quarter. With only one minute and 50 seconds remaining in the game, West Texas' halfback Vic Bates tried two plunges with the final one scoring 6 points. Melton then added an extra point and the game ended with the Lions left behind on the 41-7 score. The Lions made their only score early in the second period when Engle's 22 yard pass to end Joe Murphy took them down to the 4-yard line. From this point Engle hit the middle for no gain. West Texas then drew a penalty for too much time, placing the ball on the Buff two. It was here that Engle smashed over for the lone East Texas score. Bob Nations booted over the extra point.
